NAIT's Sustainable Environment and Green Culture series of courses provide insight into how to thrive within your house and home, local culture and community.

  • Learn how to create a sustainable home and property. Reduce bills, increase efficiency and ensure your property is resilient to change.
  • Gain an understanding of how you can play a positive role regarding climate change and your local environment.
  • Develop an understanding of Competency in Organizing Regenerative Ecologies (CORE) and how to develop sustainable solutions for your community and home.
  • Discover how to design the residential landscape of your dreams. Create a landscape design based on your own property that increases your property's productivity and beauty.

Learn in a blended delivery setting, between online and remote instruction. Find out how you can be an active contributor to home ingenuity, social progress and a healthier environment.

      Hands-on skills to reduce your footprint

      NAIT’s Sustainable Environment and Green Culture series of courses will provide you with a variety of strategies related to enhancing your home, local community and environment. These courses instruct unique skills such as beekeeping and sustainable backyard design. Instructors encourage students to become active members of their local community by teaching hands-on methods to get involved.

      SEGC courses start up throughout the year and are offered in a variety of methods to best suit your schedule. Classes can be in the form of daytime, weekend or evening classes that can be taken both in a remote face to face or self-directed online environment, but regardless of delivery, all students are encouraged to participate in discussions and group activities.

      Delivery Methods

      • Face to Face: Where: In-person meetings. When: Course is scheduled at a specific time for students to attend. Face-to-face instruction at all class meetings. Location may be on campus or at a worksite.
      • Blended: Where: Mixture of in-person & online components. When: Course is scheduled at a specific time for students to attend. Combination of face-to-face and online components at specific times. Some online components may be accessed online anytime.
      • Hyflex: Where: Choice to attend in-person or online meetings. When: Course is scheduled at a specific time for students to attend. For each class, students choose to attend in-person with the instructor or online at a specific time.
      • Remote Live Delivery: Where: Online with instructor. When: Course is scheduled at a specific time for students to attend. Instruction is delivered at set times online. Students do not come to campus.
      • Remote On-Demand Delivery: Where: Online anytime. When: No set class meetings. Coursework is accessed on-demand and online. While there are no set class meetings, there may be set due dates and deadlines for some activities. Students may interact with peers through virtual tools.
      • Remote Independent: Where: Online anytime. When: No set class meetings. Coursework is accessed on-demand and online, with no instructor support. While students choose when to do coursework, there may be set due dates and deadlines. 
      • Work Placement: Where: In-person meetings. When: Work is scheduled at a specific time for students to attend. Onsite work integrated learning. Location at a worksite.
