Recognizing how sound works and how it can be manipulated in the analog and digital space is the foundation of sound design. Upon successful completion of this course you will be able to apply sound generation and recording practices. Graduates of this course will be able to describe the fundamentals of sound source generation and recording and will be able to explain the base elements of sound design. You will also be able to capture sound in the studio and in the real world. Prior to enrolling in this course, it is recommended that you have some familiarity with audio equipment and related software.

Upon successful completion of this course you will be able to apply advanced audio recording and manipulation techniques. Graduates of this course will be able to explain psychoacoustics and describe how to use them for effective sound design. You will also be able to describe intermediate recording techniques such as mid-side and surround recording, including Ambisonics, and describe how to apply a variety of effects to create new sounds. At the end of this course you will also be able to spot video to create a list of sounds needed and describe how to record Foley effects for use in interactive and linear media. You will also be able to use synthesis as a component of sound design. Prior to enrolling in this course, it is recommended that you complete CCTD461, Sound Design Fundamentals, or an equivalent course, or possess relevant experience.
