When Chris Redford, chair of NAIT’s Network Engineering Technology (NET) program, learned that the program was set to expand in 2025, he knew that more firewalls would be necessary for the 24 additional student spaces. Although NAIT purchased the physical firewalls, the program did not have access to the software, service and support to make them operational.
He reached out to Fortinet Technologies as the company had previously donated 4 years’ worth of software, service and support for some firewalls currently used by NET and Bachelor of Applied Information Systems Technology students.
Fortinet enthusiastically agreed to continue their support, which will help NAIT prepare students for productive networking careers.
In addition to in-kind donations, Fortinet also supports students with in-class consultations. Jared Richardson, Fortinet’s presales security expert, regularly shares feedback and expertise on students’ projects. Students benefit from Richardson’s knowledge by learning to use the firewalls to their highest capacities.
“This volunteer piece is quite rare,” says Redford. “We are very fortunate to share a relationship not only with the Fortinet as a donor, but also with employees who dedicate their time to help our students. Thank you, Fortinet, for your ongoing commitment to NAIT’s networking and IT students.”
Moving in step with industry demand
Thanks to a gift in kind from Fortinet Technologies, students in the expanded Network Engineering Technology program will have access to the firewall support, service and software they need.
